TECHNICAL EDUCATION QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMME (TEQIP) PHASE-II

Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) was envisaged in 2003 as a long-term programme of about 10-12 years duration to be implemented in 2-3 phases for transformation of the Technical Education System with the World Bank assistance. In the first phase TEQIP-I started a reform process in 127 institutions and ended successfully in March, 2008.

The reform process needs to be sustained and scaled-up for embedding gains in the system and taking the transformation to a higher level. MCET has been selected for subcomponent 1.1 on TEQIP-II.

The TEQIP Phase II is aimed to upscale and support ongoing efforts of Govt. of India on improving quality of Technical Education and enhancing existing capabilities of the institution to become dynamic, demand driven, quality conscious, efficient and forward looking, respective to rapid economic and technological developments occurring both at national level and international levels.

The main objectives of subcomponent 1.1 are to improve the quality of education by strengthening institutions to improve learning outcomes and employability of graduates.

  •   Obtaining autonomous institution status as per UGC norms within 2 years
  •   Updating of learning resources including digitization of library books
  •   Starting new PG programmes & Doctoral Programmes
  •   New Laboratory for new PG Programmes
  •   Providing Teaching/ Research Assistantship
  •   Faculty and Staff development for improved competence based on TNA
  •   Enhanced interaction with industry
  •   Institutional management capacity enhancement
  •   Implementation of institutional reforms : both Academic and Non- academic
  •   Academic support for weak students
  •   Incremental operating cost
